Follow along as this blog sheds light on the strategic and innovative projects that places this dynamic area on the brink of a new era, making it an exciting time to explore what’s unfolding.

A Highway to Progress: The NH-40 Project

One of the most significant developments in the Vellore-Ranipet region is the approval of a Rs 13.38 billion project to construct an access-controlled highway along #NH40. This ambitious project will stretch 28-kilometers, connecting Ranipet to the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border. The new project features include:

  • Four-lane highway
  • Two-lane service roads
  • Construction of four major bridges
  • Two railway over-bridges.

The benefits of this project extend beyond mere transportation. Project NH-40 is expected to enhance travel safety and significantly improving connectivity between major cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Tirupati.

Soaring High: The Vellore Airport

Another game-changer for the region is the upcoming Vellore Airport, which is set to cause a wave of development across localities such as Ranipet. The new Vellore Airport is nearing completion, and this crucial infrastructure will not only boost tourism but also facilitate seamless travel for businesses and residents, attracting new investments and opening up new avenues for trade.

Once this airport becomes operational, it is expected to increase growth in various sectors:

  • Improved Accessibility: Lead to improved roads, schools, hospitals, parks, and public transportation.
  • Real Estate Development: Rise in residential and commercial real estate such as residential projects, shopping complexes, malls, and entertainment venues.
  • Development across Industries and Trade: With quicker transport capabilities facilitated by the airport, local industries are expected to thrive.
  • Tourism Boom: The operational airport will also boost tourism in Vellore, Ranipet, and neighbouring cities, attracting tourists with the diverse cultural heritage.

VRZ Outreach: Enhancing Connectivity and Safety

Saidapet Metro Station

The #SaidapetMetro project, which is part of Chennai’s expanding metro network, aims to improve urban mobility and connectivity, not only for Chennai but also significantly benefiting regions like Vellore and Ranipet.

The Saidapet Metro station is a key component of Corridor-1 of CMRL Phase-1, and to enhance this area’s urban landscape under this project, #B&B Developers and Builders Pvt. Ltd., the premier builder from VRZ, have been awarded a contract by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (#CMRL) for property development around this metro station.

This initiative, valued at Rs 33 crore, involves constructing a commercial complex that will enhance the facilities available at the station.

Subway Construction

A significant addition to the Vellore-Ranipet region’s infrastructure is the new Rs 22 crore subway being constructed near the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Ranipet along the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH-44) to improve safety by reducing accident-prone U-turns at Puttuthakku, a village located on this highway that links Vellore with Ranipet district and is known as a notorious black spot for traffic incidents. This project is expected to offer several benefits such as,

  • Safer crossings for both vehicles and pedestrians
  • Enhanced overall traffic flow
  • Additional subways between Vellore and Ranipet
  • Additional upgrades include new bus shelters
  • Bus bays along the service lanes to decrease traffic congestion and accidents.

Revitalizing Industries in VRZ

The Vellore-Ranipet region has been known for its vibrant industrial landscape. Ranipet alone is home to several small, medium, and large-scale units across several sectors, featuring major organizations such as Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Arcelor-Mittal, Thirumalai Chemicals Ltd., and other major enterprises. Over the years, Ranipet has become renowned for its leather production, mainly due to the presence of more than 200 tanneries and other leather-related industries. Some recent investments set to revitalize the Vellore-Ranipet region include:

  • Tata-JLR Plant: Tata Motors, in September 2024, broke ground for a ₹9,000 crore manufacturing plant in Ranipet. Chief minister M. K. Stalin laid the foundation stone for this world-class plant, expecting to produce next-generation vehicles for Jaguar Land Rover, with an aim of annual capacity of over 250,000 vehicles and expected job creation of approximately 5,000 jobs.
  • AMANN India: Amann Group has inaugurated its first production plant in Ranipet on April 2024, focusing on sustainable manufacturing of high-quality sewing and embroidery threads for the leather and apparel industries, while creating around 200 jobs.

These developments not only promise to create jobs but are also expected to boost this region’s contribution to Tamil Nadu’s economy, thereby benefiting India’s overall economy.
